A brand new version of Microsoft Office will be available to Mac and PC users later this year.
Office 2021 will be available to current Office 365 (now known as Microsoft 365) subscribers via free update, or available for a one-time purchase for those who don’t want the subscription model. Microsoft will support Office 2021 for five years under the one-time purchase model.
At BMT, we highly recommend the Microsoft 365 subscription-based model. For a minimal investment (starting at $5/user/month), you receive the web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and a number of features/benefits not available with the one-time purchase model. Benefits include: automatic updates, unlimited storage via OneDrive, communication tools via Teams, and access to SharePoint and Exchange. To learn more about the benefits of Microsoft 365, watch this short tutorial.
According to the Microsoft blog post, pricing for the one-time purchase will remain the same for personal and small business users, though the price of Office Professional Plus, Office Standard, and individual Office app purchases will increase by 10%.
