We’ve been recommending LastPass as a password manager for years now. It is highly rated and the import premium security features such as 2-Factor Authentication support & location awareness have always been free. However LastPass just released news on some important changes, effective March 16, LastPass Free users will have to choose between mobile or computers for their unlimited device access, rather than getting the system on both. Your first login on or after 3/16 will determine your choice of platform, although you’ll have three chances to switch device types if you have second thoughts. LastPass Free users are also losing access to email support, which will be reserved for subscribers to the company’s Premium and Families plans (effective May 17).
As the leading Password Manager, LastPass securely stores passwords and automatically fills them into login pages. They help you protect every single one of your online accounts with a strong password. To learn more about how you can benefit from using a Password Manager, watch our 3-minute video. Using a Password Manager is one of the smartest things you can do to protect online accounts.
What Should You Do?
We highly recommend you continue using LastPass. If you are currently a LastPass Free user, the following options exist:
- Upgrade to the Premium program. Hoping to encourage more subscriptions to paid plans, LastPass is discounting the Premium plan to $2.25/month ($27/year).
- Choose one device to run the program. Most of us use either PC or mobile to access accounts – determine your preference and select that device.
